WARM ‘WELCOME BACK’ FROM PE
DEPARTMENT……. Mr G Young- Head of Department
Welcome back to all students in this autumn term at Flegg High School. Also, a very warm welcome goes to Mr Lyn and Mrs Pearsall- two new members of staff, who are going to add to our school’s successful team of teachers. In PE, we’re looking forward to another triumphant year.
This term, the boys will be involved in football and rugby- a full list of matches will be on the website avilable for you to look at and take note of. The girls will be following a programme of football and netball and once again we hope that Flegg High School will be successful in these endeavours.
Later this term, boys and girls will be participating in the schools cross country league and there will be the opportunity for two table tennis tournaments for the students of Flegg High School to participate in. Clubs and after school activities will get underway next week, with an assortment of games taking place including table tennis, badminton, archery, rugby and netball.
This term we say hello to two new members of staff at the PE department, Mr Lyn and Mrs Pearsall. We all wish them well in their new role, supporting and encouraging students in PE. I recently conducted an interview with them, to get some more information about themselves and what hopefully they want to achieve in this job.
Was PE your favourite subject at school?
Miss Pearsall: “It was. I didn’t decide to be a teacher straight away, but when I did decide to be a teacher, I decided to teach PE because it was my favourite subject.”
Mr Lyn: “Yes it was. It was something that i took part in after school. Cricket, football, athletics, you name it.”
Could you briefly comment on what you will bring to the PE department in this school?
Miss Pearsall: “I’m going to be job sharing with Miss Maize. I will be doing mostly games and activities.”
Mr Lyn: “Yes, I would like to contribute a lot: especially to the athletics programme and the football programme.”
What is your favourite sport?
Miss Pearsall: “To watch, I like to watch any live sport such as football, rugby. To play myself, I love swimming and I love netball.”
Mr Lyn: “Athletics. Female athletes came 2nd in the 100m at the Olympics. Her name is Sherone Simpson. If I could bring that experience here, and help the students with their athletics ability, I would be very overwhelmed.”
The Olympics have just finished. Should this be an inspiration to students?
Miss Pearsall: “Absolutely. It was fantastic. I loved it.”
Mr Lyn: “Yes, the Olympics should inspire students.”
Any last messages to our very eager PE Students?
Miss Pearsall: “I hope to enjoy my time here. I’m very much looking forward to working here.”
Mr Lyn: “Yes. The students are very willing. Their work comes across, their willing to learn. I aim to motivate them, even the less ability ones, their standards will rise, but best of all, it motivates me then.”
