Team applies pressure… with success!

The Great Yarmouth under-12 football league was in action on Tuesday 22nd at Flegg High School. This was Flegg High’s second match for the season and their opponent was Great Yarmouth High School. They entered the field with only ten players and no reserve in sight.
Mr Lyn is the manager of the under 12 team and he watched the game.
“ Flegg fought gallantly from the first whistle and kept applying the pressure to their opponent. Yarmouth displayed some outstanding moves and technical skills but Flegg High was up for the challenge. Flegg kept their formation and stuck to the game plan. The defensive line kept their shape and must be commended on their outstanding work. The outstanding players of this match were: Nathan Shearing, Jack Salter, Scott Smith, Jack Holmes, and Callum Rivett. Our reliable goal keeper Mattty Wright was also outstanding.”
The team Flegg were victorious on this particular match with a score of 3-1. Mr Lyn thought the entire team had done an excellent job. He hopes the winning formula will infuse the players for the rest of the season.

Caister puts out good performance…. the result? A draw!
Flegg High U12 boys travelled to Caister High School expecting a good result. Mr. Lyn put out a strong first eleven team, going full throttle from the start. Caister took the early lead when the ball was played into the Flegg area and a Caister striker put the ball into the Flegg net. Soon after the Caister opening goal, Flegg got an equaliser after the ball was played through to Alex Philpot, who sprinted past the last Caister defender and slotted the ball home, past the stranded Caister ‘keeper. A few minutes later, the ball was smacked into Callum Rayman’s face and he had to come off. The half-time whistle was blown and the teams gathered round their managers. Mr. Lyn encouraged the Flegg team and the away team went out positive and confident. Mid-way through the second half, the ball was played back the the Caister defender, just outside his own area on Flegg’s left-hand side. The striker, Callum Rivett, closed him down and won the ball. He looked up and spotted the Flegg goalscorer, Alex, in the area. He crossed the ball left footed and Alex controlled it and neatly hit the ball into the Caister goal. A few minutes later, Caister were back on level terms after the Caister midfielder crossed the ball. A Caister player ran onto it and slotted the ball through the Flegg ‘keeper’s legs. Flegg looked on in horror as Caister drew level. After that, Caister piled on the pressure, but could not find a way past Flegg’s strong defence. The final whistle was blown and both teams won a well-deserved point. The final score was 2-2, with Flegg now with 4 points. Mr. Lyn said after the game: ‘ The defence played extremely well, the midfielders found the strikers well and the strikers played very well. Our ‘keeper kept us in the game.’

Fearless Flegg Off To Flyer

On Thursday 25th October Flegg played their first match of the season, away to Hellesdon. With back injurys to Adam Spelman and James Ewing, and a cracked collar bone for Marcus Leckerman, Reece Dargan, Jordan Toone and Ryan Cox had to fill in.
The game started well for Flegg who won a scrum from kick off. The Hellesdon scrum was powerful and they managed to overturn the ball. Constant preasure from Flegg gave them many chances but unfortuneatley they were not capatilised on.
Hellesdon won a line out 15 metres from the try line. The Hellesdon winger was fed the ball and was able to break off Sam Mallett and Sam Grant to score the first try. From a hard angle the Hellesdon fly half converted successfully.
Flegg were cross with themselves and captain Tom told the boys off. Flegg continued to mount on the preasure and although being 7-0 down they looked extremely comfortable. Hellesdon won a scrum from a Tim Parmenter knock on. Once again their scrum was far to superior for Flegg. Scrum half Harvey tackled the opposition scrum half, who was twice his size and Jed ripped out the ball to score a try. Joel took the kick, but from a hard angle and against the wind missed.
The whistle went for half time and Flegg were 7-5 down. Mr Brumpton kept the boys confidence up whilst they scoughed on Mars bars and Capri- Suns kindly donated by Jed’s mum Helen.
Flegg kicked to Hellesdon to get the second half underway. The Hellesdon receiver knocked the ball on and Tim Parmenter was there to pick it up. He ran alone and scored the try in the corner. Not even a minute gone in the second half and Flegg had already scored. Toby Bilton was given the responsibility of kicking. Toby kept nice and composed and shocked the whole team by converting a very hard kick. 12-7 to Flegg.
Hellesdon then became sloppy and were commiting many fouls. They gave endless amounts of penalty’s up for high tackles, offsides and hands in the ruck. The referee then decided to send off a Hellesdon player for a disgustingingly high tackle.
It was clear there was an extra man and Harvey Snow popped it out to Toby who saw Tom in space. Tom ran through to get his first points of the season. Harvey missed the kick. From a similar situation, Flegg won a penalty five metres from the try line. Harvey popped it to Tom who ploughed like a bulldozer through the Hellesdon defence. A sloppy missed conversion from Toby meant Flegg lead 22-7.
The final whistle went and Flegg had won in the first round of the Daily Mail Cup. This was the first time since 1991 that any Flegg team had reached the second round of this prestigous event. The talk at the end of the game from Mr Brumpton made all the bpys feel proud of themselves. ”This is the best i’ve ever seen you play” said Brumpton.
Fleggs team work was excellent on the pitch and the encouragement given to new boys Reece and Jordan was also good aswell. The tackles made by Jed, Chris and the remainder of the pack was awesome and the way scrum half Harvey feeded the ball to the backs was immense. An excellent performance from all players involved and Flegg look forward to their next match.
And we can’t forget a special mention to Helen Teale who kindly donated Mars bars and Capri-Sun to the team. Thankyou!

Great Yarmouth U13 V Flegg High U13
On Thursday 25th September, the Year 8’s travelled to Great Yarmouth, to play against them in a league match.
Flegg got off to a bright start, causing the Yarmouth defence many problems. From Kick Off, Flegg had most of the possession, which proved to pay off. After some attacking runs down the left hand side from Will Spinks, the team went on to score the first goal of the game. This gave the team a real boost, and after a strong run from Ben Allen, he was fouled by the Yarmouth defence, to earn the team a penalty, which Henry White placed into the bottom right corner.
With the team now bursting with confidence, Henry and Will combined from a corner to get the third goal of the game, and Will’s second. Flegg then went on to get two more before the half time wistle through Shaun Wallace.
Before the second half kicked off, an on form Ollie Tyrell came off, as Matthew Currant came on at left back for him. Also, a hard working Ben Allen came off, as Russell Roberts came on upfront for him.
The Year 8’s continued to show great confidence, as a solid back four denied the Yarmouth attackers an eye at goal, with any shots or crosses collected by a superb Goalkeeper in Matthew Wright.
The second half saw some attacking football from Flegg result in Shaun’s third goal of the game, and the teams 6th. Will Spinks got his hatrick as he was the first to react to a long shot from the Flegg forwards.
A hard working Joe Youngs was then taken off for Matthew Lee. Shaun then grabbed his fourth goal of the game after his shot fired off the Yarmouth keepers foot, and into the net.
A hard tackling Ollie Sayer then came off, as Ben Allen came back on to join the strike force, as the three stickers looked to make the score higher. With the defence staying solid through the hole of the game, the Year 8’s managed to keep a well earned clean sheet. And when the final whistle blew, Flegg were delighted to know that there hard work had paid of in an 8-0 victory.
