Fitness Advice

Regular exercise is very beneficial to health. It can reduce the chances of strokes and heart problems, osteoporosis, diabetes, obesity and back pain.

It is recommended that all individuals participate in between 20 to 30 minutes of physical exercise for 2 or 3 times per week.

Health v Fitness

It is very important that people understand that there is quite a large differed between exercise for health and exercise for fitness. Exercise for fitness, comprises of 9 key elements listed below that signify its definition. If one is participating in sport, plays for a team or such, it is more likely that they will be exercising to improve their physical fitness.

On the other hand, if someone wishes to improve their general health then they undertake exercise that increases the heart rate and leaves them slightly short of breath, to reduce the risk of disease and ensure their mental and physical health.

Training for Fitness

Someone who is undertaking physical activities to improve their physiological fitness will usually be monitored and be working to an agreed training plan under the supervision of their trainer of coach

Active for Health

Inorder to be active for health and to reduce the chances contracting illness and disease, obesity and other problems, an individual needs to keep active, but not to the extent of that training for fitness. Such activity could include:

  • walking to the shops instead of driving or getting a lift
  • making a point of getting some regular exercise each day, or
  • cycling to work or school instead of getting the bus or driving

Physical Activity can be FUN!!!!!

Undertaking physical activity can be fun. By undertaking exercise and joining clubs you could meet a variety of new people from all kinds of backgrounds. You could make a variety of new friends, have a laugh, enjoy the countryside and still benefit by improving your health.
